Sam Lester Johnson, son of the late Sam "Jake" Johnson, Jr. and Almarean (Kimmons) Johnson, was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi on December 4, 1963.
Sam was a united in fellow early in life with Clear Creek MB Church. He received his formal education in the Oxford School District and graduated from Oxford High School. In school, he was on the track team. Even though he didn't play basketball or football in school, he loved both sports and the New Orleans Saints was his favorite NFL team. Other things that brought a smile to his face was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Sam was a landscaper by trade, so you know that he loved for his yard to look good. He enjoyed fishing and he had a passion for dropping dem beats. He was known in DJ land as "DJ -G Man."
On Sunday, February 1, 2026, DJ G-Man got a new beat, "Marching Up to Zion. He is lovingly remembered by his companion: Adrian Young of Oxford MS; his children: Demetrick Vaughn, Zachary Young, Skylar Young, Demetria Vaughn, Sierra Young and ZaKharia Young all of Oxford MS; nine grandchildren; and his siblings: Victor Thompson, James Ivy (Mechille), and Judy Johnson all of Oxford MS, Steven Johnson (Sandra), Gwendolyn Johnson and Kendra Johnson all of Memphis TN; he also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Sam is preceded in death by; his parents: Sam L. "Jake" Johnson, Jr. and Almarean (Kimmons) Johnson-Ivy; siblings: Sarah Louise Johnson, Sue Dudley, Linda Maxwell and Floyd Ivy; and his loving grandmother: Ola Redmond.
